Good to know: if you discover your need to change your flight fast enough, you can avoid the dreaded change fee on American Airlines.
We learned this two weeks ago Friday morning when we booked last minute tickets for the D-Boy and me to join The B in Chicago that weekend and spend time visiting family and friends during his business trip. At 4 p.m. Friday afternoon, The B received an email cancelling his business meetings and negating the trip to Chicago.
Yep, at 4 p.m. Friday . . . the day before the flight . . . and just five hours after we purchased tix for the D-Boy and me to go along. (Normally I’d be dancing a jig that The Hubby doesn’t have to travel, but having shelled out the $$ to join him, and having spent the previous 24 hours making intricate plans to see as many family members and friends as possible during the short last-minute trip, I was uhm . . . not so happy.)
We briefly entertained the notion of heading to Chicago anyway, but in the end, chose to push the flight back. Learning we could avoid the change fees on American if we rebooked within 24 hours of having purchased our tickets, we quickly rescheduled our flights that evening sans change fees. Phew! Feeling a li'l bit better.
