I was recently introduced to the Bipper bSafe mobile app by my friend Leticia, and it was so easy to install and FREE that it was a no brainer for me to quickly set it up on my phone. The bSafe app is one of those apps that everyone should have, but you hope that no one has to use.
bSafe turns your smartphone (iPhone, Android or Blackberry) into a personal safety device. By opening the app when you're out and about, you can alert your chosen contacts that you're in danger and share your location with the push of one SOS button. It's the peace of mind that if you need to reach someone in an emergency, you can do it within seconds without pausing to think or search for info.
If calling or texting someone seems extreme to you, perhaps you'd prefer to arrange for a fake incoming call? (Sometimes hearing a phone ring can be enough to scare off a would-be attacker.) Or, maybe you'd just like the peace of mind to search a map to gauge your location and rogress through an area while still accessing the emergency button in one-touch.
Frequent runners like my sisters may want to simply activate the timer mode while they're out for a run, which allows their designated guardians to track their movements for a set period of time. There's even a risk mode that can allow guardians to track movements during a high risk situation, like walking to your car at night, or leaving the library or ATM in the dark.
BTW, If you're thinking, this would be great for my kid(s), think no further and go check out Bipper Kids right now. :-)
Another huge plus going for it, bSafe is one of the easiest apps to install. You could search for it in the iTunes or Android Marketplaces, or, just text "bsafe" to 84145. I did the latter and within a second, received a reply with a link to open the app and install it. Easy peasy, and the whole process took less than 30 seconds.
Here's a video of how bSafe works:
We downloaded bSafe during our roadtrip to have handy in case anything happened along I-80 in the freezing rain/flurries. We of course didn't have a need to push the button, but I think that's actually the point of it. It gives you a sense of security for when you're in a situation where you may want to feel connected or like someone's watching your back without raising a red flag unneccessarily. This will be one of the first apps I put on the Kiddo's phone once he gets one.
This post is part of a compensated campaign with Bipper where I was paid for my time in evaluating and sharing bSafe. All opinions are my own.
