I would be remiss in celebrating Valentine’s Day without acknowledging the man and his team whom regularly entertain me and put me to bed. So for today’s post, please excuse the indulgence as I send some love his way. . .
Dear Jon,
You had me at “Welcome to the Daily Show. Thank you for joining us. My name is Jon Stewart.” I don’t know why, but the phrasing of “my name is” instead of “I’m” makes me smile – like a cute little name tag at a conference. Not that you need a cute name tag, you’re handsome enough to leave me happy in bed (while working on my laptop, of course).
Oh how my love for you has grown over the years and from coast to coast! From a workaholic newlywed living in Silicon Valley, I would come home from late dinners after long work days to collapse on the couch with my hubby chuckling over your fake news.
Then came baby, and there I was, with feedings perfectly timed during the show's multiple airings a day on Comedy Central. My son still to this day turns his head when he hears the familiar intro music. When we moved to Chicago, I remember being excited about the time change one hour earlier so I didn’t have to stay up as late to enjoy the show. I also remember my toddler whining every time The Daily Show was in reruns and Tivo would record all four episodes a day – over Li’l Boo’s normal PBS, Disney or Noggin shows.
Now that I live in New Jersey and work from home, your charming punim greets me as my substitute husband while I tweet and blog into the night, awaiting my real hubby’s arrival from long workdays in NYC. You know just how to make me laugh or smirk about current events so dire or depressing that I’ve nearly begun to tune out in order to stay sane.
Thank you for tickling my funny bone and accompanying me throughout my travels and years. It is near torture when I realize that you’re on break for vacation or holidays. So Happy Valentine’s Day, Jon. This mom loves you!

This non-profit, Story Pirates, adapts and performs original stories written by kids and Jon Stewart is a big fan. You can bid on him performing your kid's original story at the Story Pirates auction on March 21st. I think the item closes on March 12th.
