This morning we were lucky to attend a Sesame Street meet-n-greet and take in the Sesame Street Live: Elmo Grows Up show at Madison Square Garden. Li'l Boo was beyond the moon to see the "real live" Elmo and Cookie Monster before the show began!
The lively show followed the usual children's show structure - about a 45 minute show, a 15 minute intermission, then a final 30 minute wrap-up and finale. It was cute, energetic and even included a set from Elmo's World (you may feel inclined to sing along; la a la la lala la la Elmo's World).
The story is about Elmo trying to decide what he wants to be when he grows up, and they run through songs with the characters depicting different career choices: cowboy, forest ranger, police, magician, etc. The songs were catchy, and many were new words to familiar tunes. Li'l Boo and I both had a fantastic time at the show. Oh, and I learned that his favorite characters are The Count, Big Bird, and Cookie Monster.
The only thing I'd warn parents about are the expenses once you get to the show. They were offering a reasonable kids meal for $4.75, though the spinning light toy your kid will be clamoring for upon arrival = $15; and the Elmo helium baloon that comes out at intermission and after the show = $10.
Full disclosure: I was invited to attend the show by Madison Square Garden.
I love the Count too. Sounds like the two of you enjoyed a really good show.
