It's a dreary day today, but yesterday was near perfect for the Run for the Wild: Save the Tigers 5K at The Bronx Zoo. Li'l Boo insisted on wearing his Detroit Tigers shirt for the Tiger run. (Thanks to his aunts for sending it to him.) He covered it up in the chilly morning with his zip-up Yankees hoodie, which was a great choice as we learned upon arrival for the race that the Yankees World Series trophy would be on display for photos at the end of the race.
I'm not sure what the baseball equivalent is for political diplomacy, but this is what happens when you've lived coast-to-coast. You raise a kid who mixes and matches baseball team apparel. We're Cubs fans, but also cheer on the Tigers, the Yankees and the Mets (yes, we rooted for the Giants when we were in Silicon Valley, but that one didn't stick). If we stay around here long enough, we'll choose a side in the NYC team debate, but for now, we're happy to go to either field for a game. We're partial to the Yankees because Derek Jeter's from Kalamazoo, but we've seen the Cubs play the Mets twice now, and even sat in the front row of one of the final games at Shea when Derrek Lee tossed us a foul ball he fielded (hit by David Wright). Oh, did I mention the kiddo was on TV during the broadcast? And it was his first pro baseball game?!
I suppose it just makes us great baseball fans. We're still loyal to the Cubs above the others, but we don't get to see them play much in NYC, and there's that blessed Cubs curse. I've been telling the kiddo since before he could comprehend it that we're preparing him for when it IS the year, so he can fully appreciate a Cubs championship in his lifetime. Until then, we're rooting for the home team. . .and my son can purge these pics if he grows up to become a Red Sox fan. ;-)
Anyway, we thought my brother-in-law (and his dad) would especially appreciate the photos of the Yankees trophy.
That is awesome! Lil Boo sure does have ALOT of great opportunities:)
