Last night was a rare instance when c2cDad's world and my world collided. Both of us attended the launch party for GetHatched.com, a Disneyfamily.com site featuring celeb mom Teri Hatcher. While we used to run into each other at related work events quite a bit before Lil Boo entered our lives, this was actually only the first or second time it's happened in the four and a half years since. These days when I attend events like last night with him, I attend merely as "the wife," so it was great for my psyche to have a reason for myself to be at the event rather than a "plus one," and I think I enjoyed myself more because of it. Though, how could I not with some other fabulous NYC area mom bloggers in the Rouge Tomate house last night?!

I found her take on motherhood to not be so much "fresh," as experienced, relaxed and fun. I've read two books recently that left me feeling the same way: "Didn't I Feed You Yesterday?" by Laura Bennett, and "Just Let Me Lie Down" by Kristin Van Ogtrop. Interestingly, all of these women are - I'm guessing - about a decade ahead of me and I find it encouraging and calming to hear that I won't always second-guess my weekly decisions in work, family and life, and that some acceptance, clarity and calmness should kick in at some point so the vivacious yet focused c2cMom can return. So to that end, I feel like the site merges being an informational resource with building a community of thoughtfulness and support for mothers.
One of the only bits of feedback that I have about the site would be to maybe post full-length unedited conversations online also. I could have watched Teri's conversation with Mariel Hemingway go on for several more minutes, and was bummed to watch the dot working its way to the end of the clip so quickly. The great thing about it, though, is that the written and video content is kept brief, so it's perfect for busy moms (or those of us constantly peppered with questions or requests every five minutes. ;-) )
Of course, how can I get to meet Teri Hatcher and not share my in-person experience? Teri was radiantly beautiful and friendly. In scanning through my pics, none of them do her looks or animated personality justice. I think it's partly because she's so demonstrative and bubbly, and personality doesn't fully come through in a still shot. She actually reminded me of a more outgoing version of my youngest sister. It could be the hair, eyes and skin tone, but the resemblance was there. Secondly, Teri seemed personable and fun - she even took Mominthecity's camera and snapped a photo of the two of them together herself! Which is totally something you would do with a friend, and sums up my impression of how the site is developing - into a fun community of parenting friends.
Thanks to Mominthecity for the photo of us bloggers with Teri Hatcher!
Yay for my blogging friend SelfishMom who is featured in a video discussion with Teri on GetHatched.com
I love how your worlds collided! How cool is that? And can you girls be any more gorgeous; you all look like bffs with Teri! It sounds like the launch party for GetHatched.com was a blast!
