Yesterday the Kiddo and I were invited by Auro-Dri swimmers' ear solution, to spend the day poolside atop the Empire Hotel in NYC with five-time Gold Medalist swimmer Aaron Peirsol. They didn't need to ask twice. ;-) We were ever so grateful for the opportunity to cool off poolside during the sweltering 95 degree heat wave, and also to swim and chat with such an accomplished athlete as Aaron, who still holds the world record for the backstroke. The Kiddo was excited to meet the world record holder in the backstroke and took to him like glue.
Of course, on a beautiful summer day with terrific views of midtown and the upper west side spread out before us, and the clear coolness of the rooftop pool water, I had high hopes of snapping some amazing photos...only to take out the camera and realize that the camera was missing an SD card. Argh. c2cDad saved the day on his way to a meeting and brought one up to us just before we left.
Aaron joined the kids in the pool and led them in some fun mini swim lessons. He had such an approachability and ease talking about swimming and water safety with the kids, and with us bloggers. He talked with us about the importance of knowing our kids' limits and capabilities in the water as we parents relinquish our assitance, attention and rules of the water. He also graced us with handsome photo opps, and put one of his gold medals on the Kiddo.
It was the Kiddo's first time in the pool since last fall (his summer swim lessons don't begin for another two weeks), and Aaron had him swimming underwater again within about an hour and a half. The Kiddo and I had a great time and I practically could not get him out of the water. Not for a drink, brownies...for anything.
Although this may have been the only time the Kiddo will wear an Olympic gold medal, it's so cool that he'll have the memories and photos from that afternoon with such an inspiring world class athlete.
Auro-Dri is an over the counter ear drying aid to help prevent swimmers' ear by drying up excess water and relieving clogged ear discomfort, and has been approved to use with children ages two years old and up. It's the official product of the American Swimming Coaches Association and is recommended by Aaron Peirsol - his photo is even on the box!
Auro-Dri is available at most drugstores, including: Walgreens, Target, Duane Reed, Meijer, Kroger or Walmart to name a few. It retails for $2.99-$3.49 for a one ounce package. There's an Auro-Dri coupon up on their site too.
While this may be the only time the Kiddo will be wearing an Olymipc Gold Medal, it's cool that he got to hang with such an inspiring athlete.
Informative article - great pictures on a pretty day
