The United Nations Foundation recently celebrated the launch of an app for their Shot@Life program, an initiative to protect children worldwide by providing life-saving vaccines. The lovely ladies of Trumpeting Media invited us to attend the event and donate to the program, which we happily did.
The UN Foundation worked with the American Academy of Pediatrics to launch the Shot@Life app to help parents track children's milestones while raising awareness of the need for life-saving childhood vaccines worldwide. The premise behind the app is that 1.5 million children die globally each year from a disease that could have been prevented by a vaccine - like polio, diarrhea, measles and pneumonia. The parents of those 1.5 million children don't get to celebrate the usual childhood milestones like a first smile, first steps or losing a first tooth.
The Shot@Life app lets parents capture and share their kids' milestones with stylized photos through email, on Facebook or Twitter. The app includes developmental and health-related indicators for each stage of a child's life up to age five, and serves as a reminder of the need for life-saving global vaccines. The new app is available for free at ShotatLife.org/mobile, A $20 donation can offer a child a lifetime of immunity with four life-saving vaccines.
We were excited to see YouCake at the party, with edible cookie toppers that the kids could color. The Kiddo of course chose the dragon . . .
We tried out the face painting . . .actually, I thought the Kiddo was initially asking for a Spiderman face, then I turned back around and he was getting a Star Wars Darth Maul face! I was afraid he was going to scare the younger kids. He looked fierce!
There was dancing, and some of the best balloon animals we've ever seen!
We had a fun family night, for a great cause. Special thanks to the Shot@Life program and event partners and sponsors for a fun night:
People often ask “How can I get involved? The UN Foundation mobile application allows citizens worldwide to learn more about areas where they want to add their voices, advocate and help support the UN.
