HTC is looking to
create a flagship phone in the HTC One, and they seem to have done just that with some of my favorite features like Blinkfeed and HTC Zoe.
The universal reaction to first seeing the HTC One seems to be love at first sight, and it's easy to see why. The HTC
One case is made of solid, shiny aluminum - so not only is it handsome, it's durable too. It feels
substantial when you pick it up - not in a heavy way (it's only 5 ounces), but in a way that
says "this is a phone that will hold up." The screen is beautiful, not only because it's nearly 5" in size (4.7" to
be exact), but because the color is vivid and images are super clear.
From
the get go, HTC makes it incredibly easy to set up your HTC One smartphone. I used my laptop to remotely configure
everything from email, my wallpaper, ringtones, even apps - all of
which is then sent to the phone so I didn't have to fiddle with
options on the phone itself
if I didn't want to.
Don't know where to start? There's seven presets to help guide you - I of course chose the "Family" option but I could have selected Travel, Music, or four others. If I didn't like any of these I could have created my own, selecting from 17 featured headline partners and 12 categories of content to help guide my interests. Applications to download? There's 88 free apps that can be suggested based on your likes, which saves time right up front from having to search and download each and every app that I use. While it didn't have nearly all the apps I was looking for, it did have several that I use.
BlinkFeed
All
of this customization isn't just for fun, as it powers HTC's BlinkFeed
technology which allows you stream content right to the homepage of your
device. News
updates dynamically across all the categories and news partners that
you've customized on the start page of the HTC One. This includes all of
my social content across Twitter, Facebook and Flickr. You can update
news by category and switch between content with the flick of your
finger.
Great Video, Audio and Images
One
of the (many) things I love about this phone is the video and photo
abilities of the HTC One by Sprint. Like a lot of people these days,
I take a ton of photos with my phone, and quality is important. Not
only is the camera incredibly fast, but HTC is now built with the
UltraPixel Camera which allow you take better pictures with less
megapixels, and it's impressive even in low light. For the advanced
photographer there's a lot of features, including adjusting the ISO,
object removal and face
scrubbing.
Then there's HTC Zoe - my FAVE! Zoe allows you to take Vine-line videos that are 3 seconds in length, in 1080p full high definition. But the really cool thing is HTC Video Highlights, which automatically stitches together pictures and all of your Zoe's to craft a 30-second video. You can choose music themes to add to background and then share out with friends.
Without question, this is one of the more impressive, feature rich devices that I've seen. It really packs a lot into a beautifully designed phone, and seems to have earned a place as the flagship of HTC. You can buy the HTC One from Sprint in stores now or on their website at www.sprint.com/HTCOne
