Is your perennial New Year's resolution trying to lose weight? Then Netflix may be your motivation to finally make it happen.
According to a recent survey of 1,000 of its users, Netflix discovered that more than 50% of Americans would trade in their couch for a treadmill while binge watching their favorite shows.
The secret? Access to commercial free programming was a strong enough motivation factor to get people working out for longer since there's no interuption or distractions.
So what were the top types of shows people were most likely to watch while exercising? Over one third of those polled said sitcoms were their favorite distraction while burning those calories, with a little over a quarter saying that more serious serial dramas were their choice. Sci-Fi/fantasy (24%) and reality shows (20%) also made the list.
As Netflix puts it, think about your workout this way...one 22 minute episode of New Girl translates into 117 calories burned on a bicycle, 152 calories on a treadmill, and 334 calories on an eliptical.
Bikini season eat your heart out...
