No bones about it, this winter has been a doozy for the Midwest and East Coast. In New Jersey, we've received over 50" of snow so far this season and winter has several more weeks to go! All of this snow reminds me of my wintry memories from my childhood in Michigan, and I'm grateful to impart some of those snow day experiences with the Kiddo.
We've made snow angels, built entire snow families, carved out snow tunnels, and plastered each other with snow balls. Which is all in good fun until you realize that your feet and hands are wet from being in the snow so long and you move indoors to begin the process of thawing out. The practical priority inside, of course, is finding a place to hang and dry out all of your wet winter gear: gloves, hats, scarves, snow pants, boots, etc. Although we really just race through those motions to get to some stove-top hot chocolate and soup!
Seriously, soup and snow go hand-in-hand, don't they?
The Kiddo's favorites are the traditional Campbell's condensed soup chicken noodle varieties . . . with the prerequisite "red from the cold" cheeks. :-)
The finale for our snow day routine is to retire to the couch and cuddle under blankets watching favorite family movies and building forts to read or play cards under with a flashlight. Of course, when you run through this routine too many times in one season (ahem), you can easily go a bit nuts cooped up in the house. There's really only so many times a living room fort remains exciting when you're doing it two days a week for a month. ;-)
Here's what the Kiddo and Zoey have to say about next week's impending snow storm:
