Skullcandy launched their line of women's headphones yesterday, that debuted at CES earlier this year. The women's line of headphones - consisting of Bombshell, Dime and Knockout - is available in three colors: fabric quilted black/geo with stud embellishments, robin's egg blue, and floral with oh-so-trendy rose gold accents.
The colors and finishes were used to add feminine flair to a traditionally unisex product; however, Skullcandy altered more than just the design for the women's headphone line. They discovered research that shows acoustical and behavioral differences in how males and females experience audio from headphones.
As such, Skullcandy adapted the acoustics, comfort, fit, materials used, and even hygiene for these new headphones. These are supposedly even able to reduce hair clamping - which is music to my ears as I always seem to have crimped hair when I step off an airplane from my noise-cancelling headphones.
Speaking of travel, the headphones fold to 40% of their size to stash into a matching wristlet case. They also feature a three-button in-line mic to switch tracks, change volume or make calls.
While I can't yet comment on the fit or audio experience of these headphones for women, I do see them as a step in the right direction to reach women looking to cultivate their own identity and brand. The ability to express one's self as a unique individual via fashion choices and wearable technology is so trendy right now: fit in by having a sought-after set of fashion-forward headphones, but customize them to the look and persona that you want to project to the world. These Skullcandy Women's headphones appear to do just that.
Skullcandy Women's are available now in the U.S. and cost between $29.99 - $99.99. They'll launch internationally in June 2014.
